The Business Development Initiative (BDI) is strategically crafted to enhance FDOT's objectives of fostering competition, reducing costs, and securing greater support to fulfill its contracting requirements over the next decade. The primary focus of BDI is to create additional avenues and assistance for small businesses, facilitating their transition from subcontracting and sub-consulting to assuming prime contracting and consulting roles. Various strategies are employed within the initiative to open opportunities for businesses that might not traditionally bid on FDOT contracts.
In 2009, FDOT became the first nationally to implement the Business Development Initiative (BDI) on federally funded projects. By 2013, BDI goals were set at 10% for all work types in small business competition contracts. Explore BDI details and projects.
